ono takanori
Ono Takanori, or ohno takanori, lived 1886-1945.
This wonderful oil painting of his reminds me strongly of Matisse, in both its use of colors and its use of perspective. Size is 100 cm tall and 82 cm wide.
This early work of Ohno or Ono Takanori is dated 1917 at upper left.
Born in Chiba he was a Western style painter who studied at the Tokyo School of Fine Arts under Wada Eisaku and Nagahara Kotaro, graduating in 1911 just as Kodera Kenkichi did. He exhibited at the Bunten and Teiten famed Tokyo art exhibitions. Went to Europe from 1922 to 1924. There, he exhibited at the famed Paris Salon Nationale des Beaux Arts.Upon his return to Japan he became a member of the Kofukukai and founded his own school, Ono Yoga Kenkyusho, where he was a teacher. Died in the Hiroshima nuclear bombing while visiting his daughter in Hiroshima.
